If your child needs to arrive at school before 8.15am, please bring them through the school gate rather than leaving them at the gate or outside their classroom. Before school, children can play on the oval in the middle of the school.

On Tuesdays and Thursdays, children who arrive early can go to the hall for Breakfast Club.

We just want to say a huge thank you for the kindness, support and understanding you have shown us during this sad time.

Sun Jul 19 03:58pm

By keeping your children at home where possible on Monday, you are making it possible for so many of our staff to attend Mrs Sanders’ funeral, say their farewells and support her whānau. We really do appreciate it.

We also understand that some whānau need to send their children to school. Please be assured that we have enough staff onsite to care for and supervise them, and we will be ready to welcome them on Monday morning.

For any whānau who would like to do some mahi or learning with their child at home on Monday, the Ministry of Education’s Parent Portal has some great ideas. You can choose your child’s year level and find activities to do together:

https://www.education.govt.nz/parents-and-caregivers/schools-year-0-13/parent-portal/guide-for-the-new-zealand-curriculum-years-0-to-8

Thank you again for the way you have supported our school and staff. It means a great deal to us.

Ngā mihi nui,
Keryn Burns, Raureka Staff and Board

Important Notice for Monday 20 July 2026

Wed Jul 15 03:35pm

Kia ora whānau,

As shared earlier, our much-loved staff member Donna Sanders has passed away. Donna was at the heart of Raureka School for over 38 years and made an incredible contribution to generations of tamariki, whānau and staff.

Donna’s funeral will be held on Monday 20 July, and most of our staff will be attending to farewell her and support her family.

We kindly ask that, where possible, whānau keep their children at home for the day. We understand this will not be possible for every family, and Raureka School will remain open, with minimal staff onsite to supervise any students who need to attend.

To help us plan appropriate staffing and supervision, please complete the short survey below for each child in your whānau:

https://forms.gle/z7dBKuTJ9hMXH8Qu6

If you are planning to take your child to Donna’s funeral, we would appreciate you considering having them wear their school uniform so they can represent Raureka School as we farewell someone who has been such an important part of our kura.

Thank you for your understanding and support as our school community comes together during this very sad time.

Ngā mihi,
Keryn Burns

It is with immense sadness that we share the news of Donna Sanders’ passing.

Wed Jul 15 01:05pm

Donna has been at the heart of Raureka School for 38 years. She has made an incredible contribution to our school and has touched the lives of generations of tamariki, whānau and staff.

Like the tui, Donna was a strong, bold and cherished presence at Raureka.

Donna will be deeply missed and will forever remain a treasured part of our Raureka School whānau.

Our love and thoughts are with Donna’s family at this very sad time.
