Good morning everyone, Remember our teachers are at school today. We thoroughly support the strike but have an exemption because of Cyclone

Thu Mar 16 07:21am

damage throughout the region.

Our teachers are wanting the Ministry of Education to provide the necessary resources and time to provide quality learning programmes for all children. Currently we have lots of children who need extra support but this is not being provided.

In NZ we are currently losing a lot of Teachers and Principals because of the conditions of service. We want to keep quality teachers and to doo that we need to pay them appropriately.

A huge thanks to our staff for being great educators.

Remember school as usual.

Good morning everyone, what a great evening it was last night. A huge thanks to everyone for the fantastic stalls and great Tabloid sports.

I will let you know how much was raised later.

Have a great day.

Greg

Good morning remember school closes at 12:30 today and children come home then. They return ready to start the Tabloids at 5:00 followed by

Tue Mar 14 08:12am

the Year 6 fundraising Stalls at 6:00.

Greg

Hi everyone we won’t have assembly today because of the storm. Children will be in their rooms until the end of the day. We will give out

Fri Mar 10 02:48pm

Certificates on Monday morning, when it is hopefully drier. Have a great weekend

Raureka Teachers will be at school on Thursday 16th March. While our staff support the action being taken to improve the conditions for our

Fri Mar 10 12:05pm

tamariki and staff.

Teachers around the country voted to strike because the funding for our schools is not sufficient to give teachers and principals the time and resources to teach.

More resourcing is needed to ensure that all of our tamariki thrive,

and
we can retain our quality educators and school leaders in the sector.

Because of the disruption caused by the Cyclone our staff have chosen to stay at school next week but will fully take part in any future action.

A huge thanks to our staff for this show of support to the community as they know that our system is not providing adequate resources.

Please help us get the government to provide the correct resourcing and time to ensure that we get the best possible staff and outcomes for our children.

CRICKET DRAW – Saturday 11th March

Wed Mar 08 03:05pm

Stags Year 5/6 Hardball Team vs Te Mata, Raureka School Field, 9am
Raureka Davy’s Year 4/5/6 Softball Cricket vs Marakakaho, Frimley Park Field 1, 9am
Raureka Aces Year 3 Softball Cricket vs Frimley, Cornwall Park Field 4, 9am

Good morning everyone, Unfortunately we have had a major glitch with this week’s newsletter. The company we subscribe to has changed all

Wed Mar 08 11:53am

access to the newsletter and stopped us from getting into it. This has meant that the draft has been lost.

A new format is being organised now and I should be right for next week.

In the meantime this is a quick summary of the newsletter

We are continuing with swimming hopefully until the end of Week 8, if it is too cold children will not need to swim.
We will have Lara come in and take 4 more poolside lessons with the children from 20-23 March.

Congratulations to both Pippa Burns and Cooper Corbett who are our swimming champions for 2023.
I’ll get photos included in the newsletter next week.

Congratulations to Whero who won the Inter House Swimming competition, Kowhai 2nd, Kahurangi 3rd and Kakariki 4th. There were only 4 points between first and second and 10 points between 3rd and 4th. A very close competition.

Remember that we have Carnival on next Tuesday 14th March. We close at 12:30 and then reopen at 5:00 for the Inter House Tabloid competition and then at 6:00 the Year 6’s have their Stalls. The Year 6’s are raising funds for Camp.
All children finish at 12:30 and go home then. OSCAR will be open for people who want to book in. The children will bring home lunch.

School Photos: last week I said that we would be having the photos taken next Tuesday. We have had to change this as we didn’t have the order forms sent to us in time. The photos will now be held on Wednesday 10th May. The Photos will cost $12 and include a class photo and an individual photo. Please note there are no family photos taken. Information on how to order and pay will be sent out at the beginning of Term 2.

Thank you for supporting us last week with our Teacher meeting in Havelock North. We appreciated the opportunity to attend the meeting and hear what was being put forward.

End of Term: A reminder that we finish the term on Thursday 6th April.
Term 2 will start on Wednesday 26th April instead of Monday 24th. We start on the 26th because the Ministry of Education has instructed all schools to take a Teacher Only Day at the beginning of Term 2 to start to implement the Curriculum Refresh. We are still waiting for updated information to support the introduction of this. Our staff will continue to do their best to provide an excellent learning programme for your children.

Have a great week- We should be back to the full newsletter next Week.

Regards,

Greg

Fri Feb 17 12:16pm

The Ministry of Education and Civil Defence are recommending that schools open as soon as it is safe for them to do so.

Kia ora whānau, As we remain in a national state of emergency Raureka school will remain closed for the rest of the week as advised by the

Ministry of Education.

Many of our staff live outside of Hastings and are hugely affected by flooding, power and communication issues. Many Hastings staff and school whānau are still coping without  power, cell phone and internet.

We would appreciate it if you could share this information with other Raureka whānau as we know communication is limited.

This is a very difficult time for all and we are sending aroha to all affected.  We will keep you updated via our regular communication channels as new information arrives.

Stay safe

Kia ora whānau, SCHOOL IS CLOSED WEDNESDAY 15TH OF FEBRUARY

Tue Feb 14 04:36pm

Due to the national state of emergency, school will remain closed tomorrow. We have made this decision due to a number of factors: bridge closures affecting staff’s ability to travel to and from school, uncertainty of power, water and internet supply following this event and this day will enable us to carry out health safety checks at school to make sure it is safe for our tamariki to return to school.

We did not make this decision lightly and appreciate your understanding. Stay safe and look after your whānau.

CYCLONE GABRIELLE Kia ora nga whanau, This is just to inform you that at this stage our school will be open tomorrow as per the norm.

Sun Feb 12 09:07pm

If you have difficulty in getting your tamariki to school tomorrow due to flooding or storm damage to your property then please follow the normal procedures and let us know.

We understand that the wet weather may mean that there will be more traffic on the roads tomorrow so we would ask you all to be patient with pick-ups and drop-offs over the next 48 hours.

Please take care on the roads, for yourselves and for the sake of those others around us.

We are aware that some Schools may be closing for the next two days however this decision has also been based students travelling to school by bus, which we are unlikely to be affected by.

I have seen that a lot of our local primary schools are remaining open. We will all be monitoring the situation closely and will provide a further update tomorrow.

Stay safe.

We are looking forward to a great year.

We’re looking forward to seeing all our tamariki back at school on Friday 3rd of February. Stationery will be for sale from Room 3

Mon Jan 23 07:18pm

on Tuesday 31st Jan & Wednesday 1st Feb 9.00am – 12.30pm.

I hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas with friends and family. It is with sadness that I let you know that Mr Filipo will not be with

Thu Dec 29 02:44pm

us next year. He has accepted a job closer to his family and will be working in the same school his children attend.

His new job starts at the beginning of the year so he won’t be able to teach Room 4. Initially we had hoped that Daniel would be with us in Term 1, unfortunately his new school wanted him to start on the first day of term and this means that he can’t be with us.

As Daniel resigned after the school year ended I have been working on finding a replacement teacher. We have been very fortunate to have found a great teacher to replace him.  We will have Toni Bickerstaff join us and teach in Room 4. Toni is a very experienced teacher and she is looking forward to joining us and working with our Raureka whanau.

On behalf of everyone I wish Daniel all the best in his new job and know that he will do well and thank him for the time he spent with us.

I would also like to welcome Toni to our school, I am sure that she will have a great time working with the tamariki and our staff. We are so pleased to have her join us.

Have a very happy and safe New Year.

Greg
